When President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Freedom of Information Act on July 4th 1966, he has essentially opened the gates of public records and undisclosed government documents to the general public. The previously undisclosed records that were controlled by the U.S. Government are now accessible by anyone who wishes to gather information. In the state of California, in particular, California Arrest Records can be easily acquired through the FOIA. The agencies that are charged with keeping such records are capable of providing accurate and detailed information to anyone who needs them.

Typically, the individuals who have appropriate reasons for checking someone’s criminal background are employers, parents, and even your average Joe who just wants to keep his neighborhood safe. Employers who are careful when hiring someone usually checkout the applicant’s background information to make sure that he is not hiring a fugitive or someone who has a serious criminal history. Parents who wish to make sure that the housekeeper or the babysitter is legit may want to do background checks as well. If you are going to leave your house or your children to someone, you might as well make sure that they have a clean background, don’t you think so?

When gathering information on a particular individual, the best way to go about it is by going to the local government agency in charge of keeping the arrest records, which means if the person previously stayed in another city or town, you will have to travel all the way to that city/town to get the information. Now, you don’t need me to tell you that this method will take days, weeks, or even months, time that most of us simply do not have. It also requires expenses that are, quite frankly, unnecessary.

Lucky for us, we don’t have to travel far to get the information that we need. When checking someone’s California arrest records, the Internet will serve as the perfect tool. Whatever kind of information you may need; birth records, divorce records, death, or criminal records, information gathering websites can provide these for you. Some websites even serve as a hub for information gathering from every state including the state of California.

The main challenge that an employer or a parent will tackle though is finding the right information gathering website that can truly provide accurate and detailed information. If you try to search criminal, divorce, or whatever kind of records using a search engine, you will get an overwhelming result that you wouldn’t know where to start. There are even websites that claim to offer free background information, then you find out that the information they provide is totally useless.

Finding a reliable website that can provide complete arrest records, as well as accurate background information, may require small fees. But the cost of these fees is nothing compared to the expenses that you may have to face when doing background checks the conventional way. The travel expenses and processing fees alone can be quite hefty if you think about it. So instead of doing research traditionally, why not just stay at home and take advantage of the opportunities that the Internet can offer.
