All the modern complexities of life may have given us excellent inventions in science and technology; however, these have also made things more difficult to handle. Today, there are now more ways to be extra vigilant, so much so that when somebody new introduces himself or herself to you, you become especially careful and suspicious. This is true when it comes to hiring somebody to take care of our family or household – like a housekeeper or a gardener. To make sure that your family is safe from human predators, you can always rely on doing a check for the applicant’s Massachusetts Criminal Records.

Since criminal records are open to the public in Massachusetts, getting the public information that you will not be difficult. This can be done by accessing a CORI, or a Criminal Offender Record Information. The CORI contains a Massachusetts resident’s criminal history. It is kept by the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services, or DCJIS, and was basically created to protect the Massachusetts from people, specifically sex offenders, who are considered as threats to the society or the citizenry. The CORI is free to access by school administrators, employers and other sectors or groups that hire people for various jobs.

If you want to get a CORI to check out a new employee, you may do so by completing and submitting a form to the DCJIS. However, a new ruling came out in the latter part of 2010 that states that employers will get access to the criminal records only if the person being checked on will be in a job that the DCJIS has listed as one of those that should not have a convicted person as a worker.

An online database that can be used in exchange for a small fee is available for employers. This database has particular guidelines that, obviously, have to be followed. There has to be an authorization for you as employer to get the criminal background information; the reason must be professionally related. Another important guideline to follow is to validate or authenticate the identity of the applicant via an identification form that’s given or provided by the government.

There are many dos and don’ts involved in acquiring information the regular way, or from big institutions like the DCJIS. The easier and more efficient way is to go online and search for the data that you need through online databases. This is the fastest process as you don’t have to wait in line or for somebody to take care of your queries.

In doing a criminal background check, your best bet is to go online and look for reliable records providers; especially if you are bent on getting the results you need.
